Supplementary Restraints System
Inflatable seatbelts are located in the
second-row outboard seating positions.
The rear inflatable seatbelts have an
inflatable bag located in the sash
(shoulder) portion of the seatbelt webbing.
The inflatable portion of the seatbelt
webbing is therefore slightly thicker than
non-inflatable seatbelt webbing.
Note: The rear inflatable seatbelts are
compatible with child restraints when
properly installed. This is because they are
designed to fill with a cool gas at a lower
pressure and at a slower rate than
traditional airbags. After inflation, the sash
(shoulder) portion of the seatbelt remains
cool to the touch.
Note: A small number of child restraints
supplied to the Australian market are
provided with a seatbelt locking device. The
seatbelt locking device on some of these
child restraints may not be wide enough to
accommodate the sash (shoulder) portion
of the inflatable seatbelts because the
inflatable seatbelt webbing is slightly thicker
than non-inflatable seatbelt webbing.
WARNING
Do not use a child restraint if it has a
seatbelt locking device that is not
wide enough to accommodate the
inflatable seatbelt webbing.
Note: Some booster seats are provided with
seatbelt guides. The seatbelt guides on
some of these booster seats may not be
wide enough to accommodate the sash
(shoulder) portion of the inflatable seatbelt
because the inflatable seatbelt webbing is
slightly thicker than non-inflatable seatbelt
webbing.
WARNING
Do not use a booster seat if it has a
seatbelt guide that is not wide
enough to accommodate the
inflatable seatbelt webbing.

Note: Child harnesses are provided with a
gated slide which must be used to convert
lap-sash seatbelts into lap belts. The
inflatable seatbelt webbing is too thick to
fit through the gated slide.
WARNING
The rear inflatable seatbelts must
not be used with a child harness that
requires a gated slide to convert a
lap-sash seatbelt into a lap belt.
The rear inflatable seatbelt consists of the
following:
An inflatable bag located in the sash
(shoulder) portion of the seatbelt
webbing.
The same warning light, electronic
control and diagnostic unit as used for
the front seatbelts.
Impact sensors located in various parts
of the vehicle.
How does the rear inflatable seatbelt
system work?
The rear inflatable seatbelts will function
like standard seatbelts in everyday usage.
E146364
During a crash of sufficient force, the
inflatable seatbelt will inflate from inside
the webbing.
