individual metal terminals in both the male and fe-
male plastic connectors.
d. Make sure all electrical terminals within the con-
nector are clean and free of corrosion. Ifnecessary,
clean connectors with a spray electrical contact
cleaner.

checked out, push the connectors to-
gether until they click and make sure they are fully
engaged and locked together (Figure 5).
f. Never pull on the electrical wires when diseonnect-
nector plastic housing.
3. Check all electrical components that are grounded to
the engine for a good ground.
4. Check all wiring for disconnected wires or short or
open circuits.
5. Make sure there is an adequate supply of fuel available
to the engine. Make sure the oil tank is properly filled.
6. Check spark plug cable routing. Make sure the cables
are properly connected to their respective spark plugs.
Spark Test
Before removing spark plugs, blow away
any debris that has accumulated next to the
spark plug base. The debris
the cylinder when theplug is removed, caus-
ing serious engine damage.
1. Remove all spark plugs, keeping them in order. Check
the condition of each plug. See Chapter Three. Replace
fouled or damaged spark plugs as required.
During this test do not hold the spark plug,
wire or connector by hand or a serious elec-
trical shock may result. Use insulated pliers
to hold the spark plus wire.
2. Open the shroud.
3. Connect the spark plug wire connectors to the spark
plugs and touch the base of each spark plug to a good
ground, such as the engine cylinder head. Position the
spark plugs so the electrodes are visible.
4. Turn the ignition switch ON and pull up the stop switch
button.
5. Pull the recoil starter rope handle. There should be a fat
blue spark across the spark plug electrodes.
6. If there is no spark, check again that all the switches
are ON.

7. If
there is still no spark, test the ignition switch as de-
scribed in Chapter Ten.
8. If there is still no spark, perform the following test pro-
cedures.
Switch Tests
Test the following switches as described in Chapter Six.
1. Main switch.
2. Emergency engine stop switch.
