petroleum spirit on a clean
cloth or ball of cotton wool.
BMW Motorrad recommends
using BMW tar remover for
removing specks of tar. Then
apply preserving agent to the
areas treated in this way.

PAINTWORK PRESERVATION

If water no longer rolls off the
paint, the paint must be pre-
served.
For paint preservation,
BMW Motorrad recommends
the use of BMW Motorrad
gloss polish or agents contain-
ing carnauba wax or synthetic
wax.
LAYING UP THE MOTOR-
CYCLE
Clean the motorcycle.
Fill the motorcycle's fuel
tank and, if necessary, pour
fuel additive into the tank.
BMW Motorrad recommends
using ADVANTEC Protect Ori-
ginal BMW Fuel Additive to
prevent fuel ageing effects.
Removing battery (
Spray the brake and clutch
lever pivots and the main and
side stand pivots with a suit-
able lubricant.
Preserve bright metal and
chrome-plated parts with an
acid-free grease (e.g. Vasel-
ine).
Park the motorcycle in a dry
room so that no load applies
to either wheel (preferably us-
ing the front-wheel and rear-
wheel stand available from
BMW Motorrad).
RESTORING MOTORCYCLE
TO USE
Remove the protective wax
coating.
Clean the motorcycle.
Install the battery.
