RS-232 used as synchronization trigger (input or output)

An RS-232 serial line connection using the Request To Send (RTS) and Clear To Send
(CTS) signals is common way to connect the echo sounder system to external devices for
synchronization purposes.

This cable takes the control signals on a RS-232 serial
line, and uses these as an external trigger. It provides
interface with any peripheral unit that requires or controls
transmit/receive synchronization. Note that this cable
does not support all the signals in the standard RS-232 specification.
Note
This synchronization method can only be used with RS-232 communication. You can
only connect two systems together.
Unless otherwise specified, this cable must be provided by the installation shipyard.
