Functional description

The Dräger X-zone 5000 alarm amplifier (referred to below as
the X-zone 5000) is intended for use under industrial
conditions within a specified temperature range for an
uninterrupted operating period of up to 5 days. Several X-
zone 5000 devices can be grouped by means of a wireless
connection and/or communication cable to form an alarm
chain. In the event of an alarm, all connected X-zone 5000
devices will issue the alarm. The Dräger X-am 5000 or the
Dräger X-am 5600 gas measuring device is used to generate
the alarm (the two gas measuring devices are referred to as
the X-am 5000/5600 below). The X-am 5000/5600 is coupled
to the X-zone 5000 via an infrared interface. In addition to
alarm generation, the X-am 5000/5600 serves as the user
interface for the X-zone 5000. If the X-am 5000/5600
generates a gas alarm, this will be transmitted to the X-zone
5000 and amplified audibly and visually.
2.3

Intended use

The X-zone 5000 is an explosion-proof, portable alarm
amplifier for the quasi-stationary monitoring of hazard areas.
The X-zone 5000 can be used together with the X-am 5000/
5600 gas measuring devices (certificates DEMKO 07 ATEX
143500X, IECEx ULD 07.0004X, BVS 10 ATEX E 080 X und
IECEx BVS 10.0053X).
Use under the following
approval conditions:
ATEX, IECEx
CSA
The device is only permitted to be used in areas where there
is a low risk of mechanical vibration. Several X-zone 5000
devices can operate in a self-crosslinking network.
The X-zone 5000 is suitable for use within a temperarture
range of –20 °C to +50 °C in Zone 0, Zone 1 or Zone 2
potentially explosive areas in which gases of explosion classes
IIA, IIB, or IIC and temperature class T3/T4 may occur.
WARNING
!
When used in Group I potentially explosive areas, the
device may only be used in locations where there is a
low risk of mechanical effects. Following exposure to
an impact or a fall, the device must be subjected to a
visual inspection and, if damaged, removed from the
Ex zone.
In applications which require Category 1G/M1 or EPL
Ga/Ma devices (Zone 0), intensive electrostatic
discharge processes must be prevented!

NOTICE
i
i
The Dräger X-zone 5000 is intended for detection in
ambient air. Any increased exposure to certain
hydrocarbons can result in restrictions in the detection
quality of the sensors.
Multiple unit communication was not tested according
„CSA C22.2 No. 152 - Combustible Gas Detection
Instruments" and is therefore not covered.

Operation
WARNING
!
The X-am 5000 (MQG 0000) must be fitted with an
NiMH T4 power pack (type HBT 0000, order no.
83 18 704).
The X-am 5000/5600 (MQG 001*/MQG 01**/MQG
01*1) must be fitted with a NiMH T4 power pack (type
HBT 0000, order no. 83 18 704) or T4 HC (type HBT
0100, order no. 83 22 244), otherwise the device will
lose its explosion protection. The use of a different
power pack is prohibited.
NOTICE
i
i
Only X-am 5000/5600 of software version 6.6 or later
are compatible with the X-zone 5000.

1. Release the lock on the
holder.
2. Remove the holder.
3. Check device receptacle and clean if necessary:
a. Check power contacts for dirt and moisture and clean
and dry if necessary.
b. Check mobility of the power contacts by pressing each
pin. The pins must all spring out at the same height.
c. Check IR interface for dirt and deposits and clean if
necessary.
4. Check power contacts on the X-am 5000/5600 for dirt and
deposits, corrosion and discolouration and clean if
necessary.
