After powering down the workstation as described in the “Getting Started” chapter, unplug the power cable from the back of the workstation.

Or, if you have already replaced either or both of the terminators with cables to external peripheral devices, replace those cables., LAN cable, USB cables, and any other cables from the back of the workstation.Refer to Figure 2-1 for location.

    Replacing the Front Panel 1. Facing the front of the workstation, align the top and bottom hinge hooks on the left edge of the front panel with their respective holes in the chassis. Insert the hinge hooks into the holes. Figure 2-4.

    Replacing the Left Side Panel 1. Replace the left side panel by holding it at an angle and inserting its top and bottom hinge hooks with their respective slots in the chassis. Swing the back edge of the panel toward the back of the workstation and press the panel firmly into place. Figure 2-6.

    Replacing the CD ROM Drive 1. Grasp the CD ROM Drive/tray assembly and slide it into the CD ROM Drive bay. 2. Facing the opened side of the workstation, reach into the back of the CD ROM bay and connect the three cables (shown on the previous page): the CD ROM Drive power cable, the ATAPI data cable (the ribbon cable), and the CD ROM audio cable.

    Parts Removal and Replacement Hard Disk Drive CAUTION A drop of just a few inches onto a hard surface such as a desk or the floor can generate large accelerations (hundreds of G’s), which may damage the device. 2. Refer to the hard disk drive you just removed from the workstation. Remove the four screws securing the drive to the tray, and pull the drive straight up out of the tray.

Gently slide the drive tray the rest of the way into the slot, making sure the hinge hooks engage the lip on the bottom of the slot. Push the release lever up and in—you will notice that the hard drive’s connectors seat securely into the hard-disk backplane board at the back of the slot as the release lever is pushed home.

Grasp the system-board tray handle and slide the system board tray toward the front of the workstation to unseat the keyhole standoffs on the floor of the chassis, underneath the board.

    Replacing the System Board 1. Position the system board tray in the chassis. When it is flat in the workstation, align the system board tray’s keyholes with the standoffs on the side wall of the chassis, and then slide the system board tray toward the back of the workstation to seat the standoffs into their corresponding keyholes.
