Operation Section
Manual Stop Procedure
Leaving the machine unattended when the engine
is running may result in personal injury or death.
Before leaving the machine operator station, neu-
tralize the travel controls, lower the work tools to
the ground and deactivate all work tools, and
place the lever for the hydraulic lockout control
in the LOCKED position.
Note: Leaving the engine unattended while running
may result in property damage in the event of a
malfunction.
Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
Delayed Engine Shutdown – The
delayed engine shutdown indicator will
illuminate or the following text will be
displayed, ENGINE COOLDOWN ACTIVE.
Delayed engine shutdown will run whenever the
exhaust temperature is above a threshold at engine
shutdown. Delayed engine shutdown will run for a
minimum of 76 seconds and will continue to run until
the engine and system components are cooled.
Note: At any time during a delayed engine shutdown,
the engine key switch may be turned to ON position
(3). The engine may be placed back into service.
For more information on the engine key switch, refer
to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Operator
Controls".
Immediate Engine Shutdown (Type
1)
When the operator determines that an immediate
engine shutdown is necessary, and needs to disable
the delayed engine shutdown feature, take the
following action. Turn the engine key switch to STOP
position (1) and hold the engine key switch in that
position for 1 second.
Note: A warning message and/or an audible alarm
will be initiated if Delayed Engine Shutdown Override
is used. A fault code will be logged for improper
engine shutdown if exhaust temperature is above a
limit.
Note: If Delayed Engine Shutdown Override is
used repeatedly, then there is risk of premature
engine and aftertreatment component damage.
Use for Emergency Situations only.
For more information on the engine key switch, refer
to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Operator
Controls".
Immediate Engine Shutdown (Type
2)
When the operator determines that an immediate
engine shutdown is necessary, and needs to disable
the delayed engine shutdown feature, take the
following action. Turn the engine key switch to
DELAYED ENGINE SHUTDOWN OVERRIDE
position (1A) and hold the engine key switch in that
position for 1 second.
Controls".
Manual Stop Procedure
NOTICE
Stopping the engine immediately after it has been
working under load can result in overheating and ac-
celerated wear of the engine components.
If the engine has been operating at high rpm and/or
high loads, run at low idle for at least three minutes to
reduce and stabilize internal engine temperature be-
fore stopping the engine.
Avoiding hot engine shutdowns will maximize turbo-
charger shaft and bearing life.
Note: Individual applications have different control
systems. Ensure that the shutoff procedures are
understood. Use the following general guidelines to
stop the engine.
1. Remove the load from the engine so that the
engine has no more than 30% power.
2. Run the engine at the programmed low idle speed
for at least 3 minutes.
3. After the cool down period, turn the start switch to
the OFF position.
