Running the Communications Program

A communications program has been preinstalled on the computer
for Windows 95 or for Windows NT. Online Help is available
within the program.
In Japan, if the computer does not have the preinstalled
NOTE:
communications program, contact your Compaq authorized
dealer, reseller, or service provider for information about a
communications program to use.
To run the preinstalled communications program:
In Windows 95, click StartÆProgramsÆJust Connect. Refer
to the program Help to use the modem's data/fax mode and
telephony features, including speakerphone, telephone
answering, and VoiceView.
In Windows NT, click StartÆProgramsÆTrio
Communications. Refer to the program Help to use the
modem's data/fax mode.
Connecting the Modem to
a Telephone Wall Jack
Before connecting the modem, refer to the Safety & Comfort
Guide included with the computer and to Appendix B of this
guide for modem safety information.
To ensure safe and reliable operation, use only UL LISTED
modem cables.
The modem is equipped with Digital Line Guard, which
NOTE:
protects the modem if it is accidentally plugged into a digital PBX
system. If excessive current or voltage is detected,
displays on the screen. If a digital line is no danger to the
DIALTONE
modem, automatic timeout occurs and
screen.
