no-toner value set to the CMYK value [0 0 0 100] are in a vector shape. To avoid
discontinuities in bitmaps, a small amount of toner is applied to areas with this toner-
minimum value. To use the paper itself as the background, set the background of your
document to this no-toner value, or in the print driver, use the default Automatic Background
setting.
• Automatic Background: This setting inserts the no-toner background behind your document
automatically. This option ensures that any areas without design elements, and with 100%
transparency, print with no toner in those areas. This is the recommended setting and is selected
by default. If your application doesn't leave a transparent background on output, placing an
opaque white area there instead, you need to manually create a no-toner background using the
already detailed process.
• No Background: This setting disables the Automatic Background feature, allowing advanced users
more freedom of design.
To select a Toner Adjustment that matches the color of your paper:
1. In the print driver, click the Printing Options tab.
2. For Toner Adjustment, click the arrow button, then make two selections.
• Select the toner adjustment that matches your paper color setting.
• Select a background setting.
3. Click OK.

When you print from any software application, the printer uses the print job settings specified in the
Printing Preferences window. You can specify your most common printing options and save them so
that you do not have to change them every time you print.
For example, if you want to print on both sides of the paper for most jobs, specify 2-sided printing in
Printing Preferences.
1. Navigate to the list of printers on your computer:
• For Windows Server 2008 and later, click Start→Settings→Printers.
• For Windows 7, click Start→Devices and Printers.
• For Windows 8, click Start→Control Panel→Devices and Printers.
• For Windows 10, click Start→Settings→Devices→Printers & scanners.
Note:
If you are using a custom Start Menu application, it can change the navigation path
to your list of printers.
2. In the list of printers, click the icon for your printer, then click Manage→Printing preferences.
3. In the Printing Preferences window, click a tab, then select the options. To save the settings, click
