RS-232 signals

RS-232 signals are bidirectional —
signals pass from the control device and
replies return from the remote device.
To connect the control device to the
transmitter, or the receiver to the remote
device, make the following connections,
as shown at right:
Tx to Tx
Rx to Rx
(ground) to
N

IR signals

IR signals are one-way (from control device
to the IR emitter that broadcasts the IR
signal remotely). There are no responses
and no requirement for a reverse pathway.
To connect the control device to the
transmitter or the receiver to the IR emitter,
make the following connections, as shown
at right:
The Signal (S), from the control device to
Tx of the transmitter.
The ground (G) of the control device is
connected to the ground ( ) of the transmitter.
The Tx of the receiver to the S of the IR emitter.
