Possible causes/consequences and M M Solutions
The poly-V-belt may have torn. A warning tone also sounds.
Pull over and stop the vehicle safely and switch off the
X
engine, paying attention to road and traffic conditions.
Check the poly-V-belt.
X
If the poly-V-belt is not damaged: do not start the engine
X
again until the display message disappears. Otherwise,
there is a risk of engine damage.
If the poly-V-belt is torn: do not continue driving. Consult
X
a qualified specialist workshop.
The engine fan is faulty.
If the coolant temperature is less than 120 †, you can
X
continue driving to the nearest qualified specialist work-
shop.
Avoid subjecting the engine to heavy loads (e.g. driving in
X
mountainous terrain) and stop-and-go driving.
The coolant level is too low.
Top up the coolant, observing the warning notes before
X
doing so (
page 183).
Y
If the coolant needs topping up more often than usual, have
X
the engine coolant system checked at a qualified specialist
workshop.
There is water in the fuel filter. The water must be drained

Visit a qualified specialist workshop.

Risk of accident
The power steering assistance is reduced. You will need to
use more force to steer. A warning tone also sounds.
Check whether you are able to apply the extra force

required.
If you are able to steer safely: carefully drive on to a

If you are unable to steer safely: do not drive on. Contact

the nearest qualified specialist workshop.
