The IDU can send files to and receive files from an FTP server. The FTP server can be on
a computer directly connected to the IDU, on a LAN, or accessed over the satellite net-
work. This feature is useful for:
• Upgrading the IDU's software (see
• Downloading an IPSec key to the IDU, for IPSec tunnelling (see
• Transferring configuration files to and from the IDU (see
• Downloading a logo to customize the look of the IDU web interface (see
2.6.6).
• Uploading alarms and events from the IDU to the FTP server, for further analysis and

For security reasons, the IDU is not capable of browsing the FTP server. It can only send
or receive specific files in a particular directory of the FTP server.
Before you can send or receive files, you must configure the IDU to access an FTP server
(see below).
