Click on any parameter on the IDU Monitoring page for a brief description of it.
If any of these parameters do not have their normal values, the IDU may not be operating
correctly.
Note: For more information about the IDU Monitoring page, see
3.1.
You can control a SIT's access to the satellite network using the IDU web interface. Use
the IDU Control page to:
• Force the SIT to log off the network, in order to release the return link. See
2.2.1.
• Disable the SIT from accessing the return link. See
Note: For more information about the IDU Control page, see
To force a SIT to log off the return link, click the SIT Logoff button. The IDU will release
the return link, thereby making additional return link bandwidth available to other SITs.
The IDU retains the forward link and remains ready to re-acquire the return link.
To log on (acquire) the return link, click the Acquire Return Link button. Under normal
operation, the IDU acquires the return link automatically when it is powered on or if a host
computer is trying to transmit data to the internet via the SIT. In this case, it is only after a
SIT logoff that you need manually to re-acquire the return link.
Note that the IDU can be configured not to acquire the return link automatically on power-
up (see the Installation Manual,
link if there is host traffic.
When you disable the SIT from accessing the return link, you also prevent the ODU
antenna from transmitting any signal. You may want to disable transmission for configura-
tion reasons, and you must stop ODU transmission whenever someone is working on or
near the ODU. The powerful ODU transmission signal can be very hazardous (see
1.6). There are two ways to do this.
• You can disable return link access so that the SIT remains disabled even after the IDU
has been rebooted. This is called the "Hold" state. To do this, click the Return Link
