Connector Cleaning Instructions
The following describes the connector cleaning process.
1. Make sure the lasers are turned off before you begin the inspection.
2. Inspect the fiber connector, component, or bulkhead with a fiberscope.
3. If the connector is dirty, clean it with a dry cleaning technique.
4. Inspect the connector.
5. If the connector is still dirty, repeat the dry cleaning technique.
6. Inspect the connector.
7. If the connector is still dirty, clean it with a wet cleaning technique followed immediately
8. Inspect the connector again.
9. If the contaminate still cannot be removed, repeat the cleaning procedure until the
Debris that cannot be removed could actually be a scratched or chipped surface. In this case,
the optical component (such as a connector) with the damaged endface should be replaced.
Bulkheads and Receptacles Cleaning
Complete the following steps to clean bulkheads and receptacles.
NOTE
Wet cleaning of bulkheads and receptacles in not recommended as damage
may occur to the equipment.
1. Make sure the lasers are turned off before you begin the inspection.
2. Remove the protective endcap and save.
3. Inspect the fiber connector in the adapter or bulkhead with a fiberscope probe.
4. If the adapter is dirty, select the appropriate lint-free swab according to the connector
5. Insert the clean lint-free swab into the adapter
6. Turn the swab several complete revolutions in the same direction.
7. Inspect the connector in the adapter again with a fiberscope probe.
8. Repeat the cleaning process as necessary.
9. Replace the protective endcap.
