ESCRIPTION
This Job Aid provides instructions for the installation of the Total Access 374 4-
POTS, 4-GigE Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDU) Optical Network Termination
(ONT). The ONT has 4 POTS and 4 GigE interfaces that provide triple-play
services for up to four customers. It is enclosed in a weather hardened Network
Interface Device (NID) and mounts to the exterior of a building. The figure
below illustrates the ONT inner enclosure with the access door of the NID
removed.

NSTALLATION
This section explains how to install the NID, ground the ONT, route and attach
the incoming Fiber, and install the Electronics Module in the NID. There is also
a section on connecting both POTS and Ethernet services.
NOTE
This Job Aid provides an overview of the basic steps required to install this
unit. For a complete and detailed explanation of all necessary steps and
precautions to install, test, and troubleshoot this unit, refer to The Total Access
374 4-POTS, 4-GigE MDU ONT Installation and Maintenance Guide (P/N
61287703G1-5).
After unpacking the ONT, inspect it for damage. If damage is noted, file a
claim with the carrier and then contact ADTRAN. For more information, refer
to the warranty.
Required Tools and Supplies
In addition to standard technician tools, you must have the following tools for
this installation.
Carpenter's level
3/32 inch screw driver for connecting ONT power
Total Access 374
4-POTS, 4-GigE MDU ONT

For fiber optic connections, you must have the following tools:

ODC Fiber Connector cleaning tool
SC/APC fiber connector
Included with the ONT packaging are fiber cable management and strain
relief, a fiber connector, and electronics/optics.
Mount the ONT Enclosure

WARNING
Read all warnings and cautions before installing or servicing this
equipment.
Refer to the national, state and local electrical codes for the requirements
for power and grounding wiring methods.
The protective earth (PE) grounding wire for this product must be 6 AWG
(13.3 mm
2
) copper and utilize either a two-hole or a one-hole lug that is
used in conjunction with an anti-rotation device. The connector must be a
suitable approved ground wire connector.
Complete the following steps to mount the enclosure.
1. Choose a vertical surface near an approved ground, but away from
down spouts, permanent water sprinklers, or other water sources. The
subscriber should have easy access for testing.
2. Refer to the illustration on the top of page 2 and use the top and bottom
Mounting Holes as a template to mark fastener locations. Use a level to
ensure the unit is level to prevent warping.
3. Pre-drill the marked locations and install fasteners or anchors
appropriate to the mounting surface (each anchor rated to 15 lbs.
minimum).
4. Mount the ONT to the side of the subscriber's premise.
Ground the ONT
Install the ground connection by completing the following steps.
1. Remove 1 inch of the insulation jacket from a 6 AWG minimum solid
copper ground wire.
2. Insert the ground wire through the rubber grommet.
3. Loosen the set screws on the ground bar.
4. Insert the ground wire in the ground bar and tighten set screw.
