Cased Well Installation
Connect a foot valve to the first length of suction pipe,
and lower the pipe into the well. Add sections of piping
as needed, use pipe joint compound at the joints.
Lower the foot valve at least 5 feet beneath the lowest
draw down water level, but not too close to the bottom
of the well. Sediment may clog the strainer if it is too
close to the bottom.
Fill pipes with water to check foot valve for leakage.
When the proper depth is reached, install a sanitary
well seal over the pipe and into the casing. Tighten
down the bolts to make the seal.
Add a tee to the pipe with a plug on the top for priming
at the highest point at pump. Connect horizontal piping
to the pump, making sure the pipe slopes slightly and
gradually up to the pump. This prevents air pockets in
the system. For horizontal offsets in excess of 20 feet,
increase the pipe size in accordance with Table I.
Point Driven Installation
Install a packer-type foot valve in the driven pipe below
the lowest draw down level of the water.
Be sure that the packer-type foot valve is
not inserted so far that it enters the well point, as it
would not restrict flow of water back down the well.
Instructions are included with the foot valve. Fill the ver-
tical pipe with water to be sure that the foot valve does
not leak.

Add a tee to the driven pipe and run the pipe horizon-
tally to the pump, making sure that it slopes gradually
up to the pump to avoid air traps. For long horizontal
offsets, increase the pipe size according to the size
specified in Table I. The tee is to include a priming plug.
Dug Well or Lake Installation
Install a foot valve on the suction pipe and lower it into
the well. Be sure the foot valve does not rest on the bot-
tom of the well, as it will clog with sand and stones. Fill
the vertical pipe with water to be sure the foot valve
does not leak.
Add a tee with a priming plug, to the vertical pipe and
install a pipe horizontally to the pump. make sure the
pipe slopes gradually up to the pump to avoid air traps.
For long offset installations increase the pipe size
according to the size specified in Table I.
When a lake is the source supply, the pipe should be
installed far enough into the lake to have it submerged
at all times. The end of the suction pipe should be pro-
tected with a strainer crib, with a check valve installed
in the horizontal line. Make sure that all pipes installed
into the lake are protected against freezing or drained
under frost conditions.
