Another special case of fractional article sale is sale of a portion of packaging (i. e. packed
processed cheese) and the PLU is programmed for the entire package. In this case, the regis-
tration follows this procedure:
enter the number of purchased items
press the Divide key
enter the number of items per pack
press the Multiply key
sell the article

Fractional sale using the electronic scales

The sale using the electronic scales can follow two different procedures:
1. In cases when the scales are directly connected to the POS and are properly configured in
the service mode, the fractional amount can be registered simply:
press the Scales button
place the item onto the scales and leave to steady (registra-
tion is impossible until scales are steady)
sell the article
2. Next case is the use of weighed bar-codes, printed by the electronic scales. Such scales
print the weighed bar-code sticker after the item is weighed and its code selected on the
scales. This weighed bar-code can contain not only the article weight, but also the article
price (determined by the type of scales). Weighed bar-
codes contain these elements (more detailed view is in
the figure 4.4):
Prefix – 1st–2ⁿd numeral; if the prefix is 26, 28, or
29, the weighed bar-code contains information on
article amount, if the prefix is 21, 24, or 27 then
the weighed bar-code contains directly the article's
price,
PLU – 3rd–6t numeral; weighed article PLU,
