With the engine off, turn on the water
supply and let the water flush through
the cooling water passages for about 15
minutes.

Turn off the water supply, and then dis-
connect the garden hose from the gar-
den hose connector.

Connect the garden hose connector to
the fitting on the bottom cowling and
tighten it securely. NOTICE: If the gar-
den hose connector is not properly
connected, cooling water can leak
out and the engine can overheat dur-
ing operation.
TIP:
When flushing the cooling water passages
with the boat in the water, tilting the outboard
motor up until it is completely out of the water
will achieve better results.

Checking painted surface of

Check the outboard motor for scratches,
nicks, or flaking paint. Areas with damaged
paint are more likely to corrode. If necessary,
clean and paint the areas. A touch-up paint is
available from your Yamaha dealer.

Periodic maintenance

These procedures require mechanical
skills, tools, and supplies. If you do not
have the proper skills, tools, or supplies
to perform a maintenance procedure,
have a Yamaha dealer or other qualified
mechanic do the work.
The procedures involve disassembling
the outboard motor and exposing danger-

ous parts. To reduce the risk of injury
from moving, hot, or electrical parts:
Unless otherwise specified, stop the
engine and keep the key and engine
shut-off cord (lanyard) with you when
you perform maintenance.
The power trim and tilt switches oper-
ate even when the main switch is
turned to the "

under it or between it and the clamp
