Before installing the switch, review the requirements and specifications referred to in this chapter
concerning the following:
• 1000BASE-SX/LX network
• 10-Gigabit Ethernet network
The network installation must meet the requirements to ensure satisfactory performance of this
equipment. Failure to do so will produce poor network performance.
Note: The Matrix E1 1G694-13 Configuration Guide and Cabling Guide, referred to in the

1000BASE-SX/LX NETWORK
The fixed ports (1 through 8) are MT-RJ fiber optic ports that support 1000BASE-SX. The four
port sockets (9 through 12) support optional Mini-GBICs. The Mini-GBICs enable you to vary the
type of 1-Gbps ports. At the printing of this document there were three Mini-GBICs available: two
that support 1000BASE-SX and one that supports 1000BASE-LX fiber optic connections. The
device at the other end of the fiber connection must meet the 1-Gigabit Ethernet requirements for
the devices to operate at Gigabit speed.
