STANdING PILOT ANd HEAT ExCHANGE RETuRN
The L390E / HZI390E use a heat exchanger and efficient combustion
technology to provide extreme heating efficiencies. The more efficient an ap-
pliance becomes, the lower the flue gas temperatures becomes.
On start-up, flue temperatures are required to initiate venting action.
Here are some considerations when setting up the L390E / HZI390E:
1) When operating the unit in temperatures below 50° F, run the pilot in
"Standing Pilot" mode, by setting the Surefire™ switch to ON.
The switch is located to the bottom left of the Firebox Door.
Move the switch to the right to run in Standing Pilot mode, to the left to
run in Intermittent Pilot (electronic ignition) mode. This will aid in keeping
the flue slightly warmer than the outside air, making start up a smoother
process.

2) When operating the unit in extreme cold climates, or at higher elevations,
consider removing the "Heat Exchanger Return". This component is
located in the Flue Outlet of the firebox and is designed to increase the
operational efficiency of the Heat Exchanger. Removing this component
decreases restriction in the venting system. This may aid in venting in
locations where venting is challenged by higher elevations, difficult vent
runs, very cold climates, or for operating the unit without such a high
heat output into the run in which it is installed.

REmOVING THE HEAT ExCHANGER RETuRN
1) Remove the panels if they are already installed. Remove one screw
in the upper left and upper right of the firebox. If the unit has been
previously operated, spray these screws with WD-40. Once the screws
have been removed, lower the front edge of the exhaust baffle and pull
towards you. There are 3 screws at the rear of the exhaust baffle that
help to position the baffle and keep it straight during operation.
2) If the unit has been previously operated, spray the fasteners with WD-40
and let them sit for a few minutes. Remove the screw that holds the
heat exchange return in place. Lower the front of the return and pull it
forwards and then out of the heat exchanger. Keep it for future use. Re-
insert the fastener from the location it came from to prevent leaks in the
firebox.
