Emergency starting

Jump start using cables
Make sure that the starter battery of the
assisting vehicle has a total voltage of 24
V or 24 V system voltage.
NOTE
Turn off the main switch on the dashboard
as well as the battery main switch in the
battery compartment prior to emergency
starting with jump start cables, see
page 46.

Position the vehicles ensuring they
do not touch.

Turn off the engine of the assisting
vehicle.

Connect one of the red cable's
clamps to the positive terminal of the
bus, marked red, P or +.

Connect the other red clamp to the
positive terminal on the battery of the
assisting vehicle, marked red, P or +.

Connect one of the black cable's
clamps to the negative terminal of
the assisting vehicle's battery,
marked blue, N or –.

Connect the other black cable clamp
to a grounded point some distance
away from the battery of the bus.

Start the engine of the assisting
vehicle. Let the engine run for a few

minutes at a higher idling speed than
normal, more than 1000 rpm.

Start the engine of the bus.

Remove the black cable clamp from
the grounded point.
10 Remove the black cable clamp from
the negative terminal of the assisting
vehicle's battery.
11 Remove the red cable.
NOTE
After the bus has been jump started, the
batteries should be charged using a
battery charger. An alternator can never
charge the battery to 100 %; in favourable
circumstances a maximum level of 90 %
can be achieved.
