8.0 Cleaning / Disinfection

Handling of the suction device determines to a large extent
its reliability and safety. These hygiene measures are
indispensable for protecting the patient and the user and to
maintain the functional safety of the suction device.
In the event in a change of ownership or an oversuction of
the device, professional reprocessing by the manufacturer,
a certified ATMOS partner or a specialist authorised by
ATMOS in accordance with Medical Devices Operator
Ordinance, Medical Devices Act and BVMed rules is
required. (See chapter 9.2 Reprocessing)

8.1 Basic information

• The following cleaning measures must only be performed
if the device was used. When the device is only rarely
used then a function check must be carried out at
intervals of max. 3 months. Only then is the function of
the device guaranteed.
• We recommend that you always document all
maintenance work and part replacements in writing.
• Please use disposable gloves for all work.
• Prior to cleaning the device please remove and dispose
of all disposable items, such as bacterial filter, fingertip
and catheter.
• Prior to cleaning please remove the power cable from the
device.
• The described measures for cleaning and disinfection do
not replace valid rules for operating the device!
• Please observe the instructions for use prescribed by the
manufacturers of disinfectants, especially regarding the
concentration information and information on material
compatibility.
• Attention: Some disinfectant solutions slightly stain the lid
parts and silicone hoses, but this has no influence on the
properties of the materials.
• In the event of a patient change all parts that come
into contact with the suction material (canister, lid,
overflow protection and hose) must be cleaned and then
disinfected. Disposable items such as bacterial and viral
filter, catheters, fingertips, etc. must be exchanged. See
the individual cleaning instructions! (See chapter 8.3)
• If the suction device is used by one patient, the device
and accessories should be cleaned and disinfected
for reasons of hygiene. See the individual cleaning
instructions! (See chapter 8.3)
• Cleaning in an automatic cleaner and disinfecter is also
possible (hose connector, secretion canister and canister
lid). Thermal disinfection is carried out at 93 °C.

8.1.1 DDS bacterial and viral filter

• Replace the DDS bacterial and viral filter after a patient
change. Replace the DDS bacterial and viral filter after 14
days, even if there is no patient change.
• Replace the DDS bacterial and viral filter with a new DDS
bacterial and viral filter if it is discoloured or contaminated
or if oversuction has occurred.
• Always ensure you have a sufficient number of spare
filters on hand.

cleaning effect. Observe the respective instructions for
use of the disinfectants!
• If there is no patient change, we recommend a change
!
every 4 weeks.
• In addition we recommend to thoroughly rinse the hose,
hose connector and vacuum hose with clear water after
each suction procedure and to disinfect them at least
once a day as described above.

8.1.3 Fingertip

the secretion canister daily as described above.
• For hygienic reasons we recommend to empty the
secretion canister after every suction procedure and to
rinse it with clear water.
) Information on how to remove the canister can be found
in chapter 5.2 on page 9.
