1.1 Intel® Persistent™ Memory 200 Series Overview

Gen Intel Xeon Scalable (83xx/63xx/53xx/4314 Series) Processors. PMem 200 Series offers
data persistency with higher capacity and provides hyper-speed storage capability for high
performance computing (HPC) platforms with flexible configuration options at lower latency
and lower cost. Utilizing the unique disruptive technology that creates a new layer between
memory and storage, PMem 200 Series can operate as system memory or offers system
memory-like performance with the storage capacity of a solid state drive (SSD).

1.2 Intel PMem 200 Series Operation Modes

Intel PMem 200 Series supports two modes: Memory Mode for volatile use and App Direct
Mode for non-volatile access. Refer to the details below for your Intel PMem 200 Series
features and support.
Memory Mode (Volatile Memory)
Optimized for volatile use, Memory Mode provides a high-capacity main memory solution
with higher power efficiency at lower operational cost. All installed DDR4 DIMMs, which
are hidden from the operating system, act as the caching layer for the PMem modules. In
Memory Mode, the system treats PMem modules as "system memory", and by the same
token, PMem also functions as large-capacity "DDR4 memory" for system use. Memory
Mode of the PMem 200 Series offers a more effective memory solution with higher capacity
at a lower cost.
App Direct Mode (Non-Volatile Memory)
Featuring byte-addressability and cache-coherence, App Direct Mode provides a non-
volatile access to PMem modules and effectively reduces I/O loading and congestion. It
allows memory space to be provisioned as "Persistent Memory" where software can "talk
directly to the PMem modules" in the "byte-addressable" manner without modifications
needed. Since App Direct Mode allows PMem modules to "talk directly to" the system
