Installing a Rack-Mount Workstation
or Server
This document provides instructions for installing a rack-mount workstation or server into a standard
equipment rack. If you purchased an Intergraph rack, refer to Intergraph Rack Installation and Use
delivered with the rack. It contains instructions for unpacking and setting up the rack. For a rack not
purchased from Intergraph, refer to the instructions that came with it.
CAUTION If you are using cables not supplied by Intergraph, you must use shielded cables to prevent excessive
electromagnetic interference (EMI). Intergraph cables reduce the amount of EMI produced by the
system.
WARNING Follow the installation instructions explicitly to avoid personal injury and equipment damage.

Unpacking the System

Remove everything from the shipping cartons and verify you have the following equipment.
CAUTION Carefully remove the monitor and the base unit from their packaging. Do not let them drop onto a
hard surface, or damage to internal components may result.
The system carton contains the following items:

System base unit and power cord.
u
Keyboard and mouse.
u
Rack mount hardware including handles, cable ties, rack rails with bar nuts, tinnerman nuts, and
screws.
u
Operating system and system software carton.
The software carton contains the following items:
u
Windows NT operating system software (CD-ROM and diskettes) and documentation.
u
Intergraph system software for Windows NT (diskettes).
If you purchased a monitor from Intergraph, its carton contains the following:
u
Monitor and power cord.
u
Monitor cable.
u
Monitor documentation.
NOTE If any of these items were not delivered, call the Customer Response Center at 1-800-633-7248.
Retain all packaging materials. If you return equipment for repair, you must return it in the original
packaging to obtain warranty service provided under your contract agreement.
