3. Description
The Germa Rescue Lite consists of an outer shell made of
hard-wearing PVC coated fabric and a unique granulate-
filled inner bag. When the air is evacuated from the
vacuum splint the individual granulates pack up together
into a tight mass, making the splint rigid. Before and
while the air is evacuated the splint may be moulded and
positioned according to the shape of the patient, to give
best immobilisation. An optimum support of the patient
is obtained when all air has been evacuated. This can be
determined by the fact that it becomes more difficult to
pump as less air remains in the vac splint, to the point where
the pump cannot be moved any more once all the air has
been removed.
The full body splint is equipped with 3 handles on both
sides. It is also equipped with four colour coded patient
restraint belts with Fix Lock buckles. When not in
use, store the belts and fasten them by use of the
buckles in the gap between the row of handles and
the mattress. When the Rescue Lite full body splint is
not being used, and is not required to be used as a splint
on top of a Basket stretcher / trolley, the vacuum splint
can be to folded and packed to store in the supplied
protective bag together with pump and repair kit, taking up
less space.
4. Operating the Rescue Lite Vacuum
Splint
1. Put the vacuum splint on an even surface possible near the
patient, trying to avoid any sharp objects that may be on the
ground. Check that the valve is closed by turning clockwise
until fully closed, if needed then twist anti-clockwise ½
a turn to open the valve. Note that the cap should not be
removed from the valve at any time during operation, to
avoid it getting lost.
2. Position and adjust the splint on the ground so that
there is an even distribution of granules along all areas of
the vac splint, and that it is flat ready to take the patient,
with restraint straps unbuckled and not underneath the vac
splint
3. Check that the valve is closed by turning it full clockwise
until it feels tight, and then connects the pump.
4. Place the injured patient in the medically desired position
on the full body splint, utilising standard adopted manual
handling procedures, utilising supplementary equipment
and slide sheets to aid in safe transfer of the patient.

5. Make sure to support stabilisation of the patient head
and neck. Mould the splint around the patient body to give
effective immobilisation, such that it becomes stable and
comfortable to the patient. Mould up some of the granular
material in the base of the mattress between the legs of the
patient. Ensure that the head flaps are positioned effectively
around the patient's head and ensure the head strap is
attached
6. Connect the patient restraint straps according to the colour
code, from legs to chest, and tighten them one by one. X
Chest belts are red and light blue. Cross them over the chest.

top of the patient's head or on the soles of their feet
