Engine oil
1.
Place the outboard motor in a vertical position (not tilt-
ed). NOTICE: If the outboard motor is not level, the
oil level indicated on the oil dipstick may not be ac-
curate.

Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it clean.

Insert the oil dipstick completely and remove it again.
4.
Check that the oil level on the oil dipstick is between the
upper and lower marks. Consult your Yamaha dealer if
the oil level is not at the proper level or if it appears milky
or dirty.

Outboard motor
 Check that the outboard motor is mounted properly and
check the outboard motor mounting bolts for looseness.
 Check the propeller for damage.
 Check for engine oil leaks.

Flushing device

Check that the flushing device's garden hose connector is
securely screwed on to the fitting on the bottom cowling.
NOTICE: If the garden hose connector is not properly
connected, cooling water can leak out and the engine
can overheat during operation.

Installing top cowling

1.
Check the rubber seal for damage. If the rubber seal is
damaged, have it replaced by a Yamaha dealer.

Check that the rubber seal is seated all the way around
the aprons.
3.
Check that all of the cowling lock levers are pulled out-
ward and turned upward.
4.
Place the top cowling on the aprons.

5.
Turn the cowling lock levers downward, and then push
them inward to secure the top cowling.
