Installing the Virtual Services Platform 8000 Series
Note:
• The front view is common for both VSP 8404 and VSP 8404C models.
• When looking at the front of the switch, slot numbering begins at the top row and increases
from left to right. Slot 1 is the top-left slot; slot 2 is the top-right slot. Slot 3 is the bottom-left
slot; slot 4 is the bottom-right slot.

1. Displays the four slots to install ESMs. For more information on the supported ESMs and

page 14.

Ethernet Switch Module

An Ethernet Switch Module (ESM) is a field replaceable expansion module that provides physical
interfaces on the VSP 8400 Series. The VSP 8400 Series provides four expansion slots.
The VSP 8400 Series supports the following ESMs.
8424XS
• 8424XS — EC8404001-E6 – provides 24 1/10G SFP+ ports.
• 8424XS (GSA version) — EC8404001-E6GS – provides 24 1/10G SFP+ ports.
