Intended use 1 . 4 Purpose of the device 1.4.1 The gas analyzer EuroFID is used to measure the total carbon content of hydrocarbon ● compounds in air. The possible measured concentration ranges from 0.015 ppm to 100 % LEL.

1 . 5 Designated users The gas analyzer EuroFID may only be installed and operated by skilled technicians who, based on their technical training and knowledge as well as knowledge of the relevant regulations, can assess the tasks given and recognize the hazards involved.
Sample gas Fuel gas The EuroFID uses a flame ionization detector (FID) for measuring the hydrocarbons. A hydrogen flame supplied by fuel gas and combustion air burns in the FID. The sample gas is routed into this flame. The hydrocarbons contained in the sample gas are split; the produced hydrocarbon fragments are ionized.

Product Description Ejector pump For transporting the sample gas the EuroFID uses a patented jet pump, referred to in these instructions as an “ejector pump”. The ejector pump does not have any mechanical, moving parts and uses a part of the instrument air as induction air.
Measuring ranges 2. 3 Measuring ranges The EuroFID has 6 measuring ranges. Each measuring range starts at “0”. The measuring range end values vary by the factor 10. The integrated sample gas filter filters particles from the sample gas before the sample ● gas enters the measuring system. Filter soiling is automatically monitored by the EuroFID. If the filter requires cleaning, ● the malfunction message “Service requir.” is activated.
– Can prevent ignition of the FID flame. Do not install any long, thin exhaust gas lines. If the EuroFID is installed in a ventilated or air conditioned enclosed area and the ventilation/air conditioning system in this area can create overpressure or pressure fluctuations: Do not install the exhaust gas line so that it discharges into this area.
Install an upstream dust filter (if necessary) The EuroFID has an integrated sample gas filter. However, the maintenance intervals of the device can become short if the sample gas contains large quantities of dust. If the sample gas contains large quantities of dust (recommendation): Install an external dust filter in the sample gas supply line (preliminary filter, coarse filter).
EuroFID. Installation of a heated sample gas line Secure the heated sample gas line so that the sample gas connection on the EuroFID is not subjected to the weight of the sample gas line. Always take the lowest permissible curvature radius of the pipe into account (refer to the technical specifications of the heated sample gas line).
This could cause breakage of the glass vacuum tube. Assembly sequence (→ Fig. 12): 1 First mount the industrial housing without an installed EuroFID analyzer (→ P. 49, §4.4.3). 2 Then install the EuroFID analyzer in the industrial housing (→ P. 50, §4.4.4).
The terminal box is supplied with mains voltage directly from the operating unit. If the supplied mains voltage does not comply with the mains voltage configuration of the terminal box, the terminal box and the EuroFID can be damaged. If damaged, the devices can constitute a hazard.
EuroFID can be damaged and constitute a hazard. If the mains voltage is too low, the function of the EuroFID is impaired. Check which mains voltage is stated on the type plate.
Installation of the Operating Unit Analog inputs 6.3.4 Application The analog inputs (AI1 … AI4) should only be connected if the EuroFID software uses these inputs. This only applies to special versions – please check whether corresponding technical information was supplied. Possible functions The analog inputs can be used to monitor other devices by means of an analog signal.
Calibration Activated as long as a calibration is running. Malfunction Deactivated if there is an internal fault in the function of the EuroFID. Service requirement Activated if the EuroFID can still perform measurement, but several internal conditions are no longer in the operating range for valid measuring values.
This control input serves to supply malfunction signals from the gas supply (e.g. signals from pressure monitors which monitor the filling pressure of the gas cylinders for fuel gas and calibration gas). If this control input is activated, the EuroFID activates the “Service requirement” status.

– The “Fault” or “Service” LED lights up and malfunction messages are displayed. The “Service” LED also lights up if the “System in Service” message was activated (→ P. 129, §11.12). In this status the EuroFID does not display any current measured values.
Follow the works instructions which apply for this situation. Otherwise: Close off the fuel gas supply. EuroFID Switch off (external mains switch or mains switch on the rear of the operating unit). Switch off the peripheral devices if installed (e.g. heated sample gas line).
When ignition is started, the fuel gas supply is briefly increased and the FID flame is ignited with a spark plug. If this does not work immediately, the EuroFID automatically makes several ignition attempts. If 10 consecutive ignition attempts were unsuccessful, a malfunction message is displayed.

FID flame is not burning: Take the EuroFID out of operation. In this case the EuroFID may not detect that the FID flame has been extinguished; therefore the fuel gas supply would not be automatically stopped in the event of a malfunction.

The “Integrated value” is the interval of sliding averaging for the measurement display. This produces a more constant measurement display if the measurement signal is irregular or “noisy”. The EuroFID then does not display current measured values, but mean values from the current measured value and the previous measured values.

11.11.10 Function The measuring ranges of the EuroFID can be changed by adjusting the end value of measuring range 6 (setting range: 0.01 … 9999999.00). The end values of the smaller measuring ranges are automatically modified (in the ratio 1:10).
The “purging time” determines how long the measuring system should be purged with instrument air (zero gas) after calibration. The purging time should correspond approximately to the reaction time (dead time + 100% time) of the EuroFID. CAUTION: Incorrect alarm signal resulting from inadequate purging time If the purging time setting is inadequate, it is possible that an alarm signal (threshold value exceeded) is still triggered.
The device status “System in Service” can be activated with a menu function. This can be used, for example, to signal to an external place that the EuroFID is not running in regular measurement mode, as maintenance work or device settings are being performed.
This menu is used to set the internal clock of the EuroFID. WARNING: Potential danger resulting from failure of the operating function When the clock has been reset, the EuroFID restarts. As a result the operating function is temporarily shut down.
11.14.2 Function With this menu the internal clock of the EuroFID can be adjusted by the hour. This is an alternative method to set the internal time to your local time. The standard setting is “+1.00” = +1 hour later than Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) = Central European time (CET).
Summer / winter time (automatic switchover) 11.14.3 Function The EuroFID can automatically switch the internal clock between summer time and winter time. Some national rules for switching the time are programmed and can be activated in this menu. Table 14...

All saved values remain unchanged. Procedure CAUTION: Risk for connected devices/systems During restarting all device functions of the EuroFID are temporarily shut down. This also applies to measured value outputs and status messages. Ensure that this cannot cause any problems in connected stations.
The EuroFID determines the measured value (actual value) of this calibration gas. c) The EuroFID compares the actual value with the setpoint value, calculates the deviation and then corrects the internal calculation parameters.
(setpoint value: “0”) – or only such small quantities that these are negligible. The EuroFID automatically uses the instrument air as zero gas (→ P. 31, §3.3.3). It is therefore not necessary to provide separate zero gas.

This function is used to have the zero gas measured instead of sample gas for test purposes. As long as the function is activated, zero gas supply is activated (internal solenoid valve opens) but the EuroFID remains in measurement mode, therefore displays the measured value of the zero gas.
2 Shut off the calibration gas supply (if available). 3 Close the fuel gas supply (external valve). ➝ The FID flame goes out. The EuroFID measuring system is purged with instrument air ( §13.1.2 “Protection against condensation”). 4 Deactivate the H leakage monitoring device (if installed).
If the housing of the mains fuses is removed, electrical contacts are exposed which carry mains voltage. Before testing the fuses: Disconnect the EuroFID from the mains supply or switch the power supply off at an external point. CAUTION: Fire hazard / danger of irreparable damage If incorrect fuses are fitted, a fire can occur in the event of a defect.
This work should be performed by the customer service technicians of the manufacturer. Preparation 1 For applications subject to the conditions of a type approval certificate (e.g. LEL warning device): Limit the operating conditions so that the EuroFID cannot become hazardous if the classification temperature is exceeded (shut down connected systems).
