FRONT BRAKE

Service Limits:

Brake pad Thickness: 1/16 inches (1.58 mm).
Rotor Thickness: 0.20 inches (5 mm).
Rotor runout: 0.005 inches (0.127 mm).
1. Make sure the ignition switch is in the "OFF"
position, then remove the key.
2. Place the shift lever in the "park" or "neutral"
position.
3. Set the park brake.
4. Place blocks under the rear wheels to prevent
vehicle movement.
Always use a lifting strap, hoist, and jack stands, of
adequate capacity to lift and support the vehicle.
Failure to use lifting and support devices of rated load
capacity may result in severe bodily injury.

Inspection

5.
Raise the front of the vehicle and support with jack stands.
6.
Remove the front wheels.
7.
Measure the distance between the rotor and the brake
pad backing plate (all 4 pads, both ends of each pad). If
any one of the four brake pads are equal to or less that
the service limit then all four pads should be replaced.
8.
Measure the rotor thickness in three places. If the rotor
thickness is less than the service limit then the rotor must
be replaced.
9.
Measure the rotor runout. If the runout exceeds the service
limit, then the rotor must be resurfaced. After resurfacing
the rotor, measure the rotor thickness. If the rotor
thickness is less than the service limit, then the rotor must
be replaced.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Rremove the blocks from behind the wheels and test drive
the vehicle.

However, there is the possibility that the original
brakes were replaced with aftermarket parts
containing asbestos. Since this possibility exists, all
brake parts should be handled as if they contain
asbestos. Refer to Appendix C for recommended
