    Introduction Introduction This manual contains installation instructions for installing the CNG Series dispenser. Included are mechanical, transporting, wiring, and start-up instructions. For any additional installation information on ground storage modules, shear valves, hoses, breakaways, and the Bulk Compressed Natural Gas System. Please refer to the manufacturer’s installation instructions for proper installation.

    Bennett natural gas dispensers must only use listed or approved equipment for fueling. Components not installed by Bennett Pump Company must conform to all requirements and standards specified by NFPA 52, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Vehicular Fuel Systems, or CAN/CSA-B108, NGV Fueling Stations Installation Code, as applicable.

    Bennett CNG Series Installation Manual Introduction Introduction Determining the Model Number and Dispenser Features Determine the model number of the dispenser from the serial plate located on the front bottom rail. Utilizing the chart shown in Figure 4 determine the features of the dispenser to be installed. Understanding the features of the dispenser to be installed will be helpful in understanding the proper installation of the dispenser.

    Examine the shipment immediately upon arrival to make certain there has been no damage or loss in transit. Bennett Pump Company, as shipper, is not liable for the hazards of transportation. Please make damage claims directly to the truck line.

    Underground piping must be buried no less than 18 inches below the surface of the ground unless otherwise protected from damage by movement of the ground. For optimal performance of the Bennett CNG dispenser ensure that all gas piping installations are in accordance with all local, state, federal, national codes and regulations.

Note: Refer to the CNG Installation Diagram - Footprint for all references to tubing. See Figure 12 for Swagelok Tube locations.

    Bennett CNG Series Installation Manual Piping Installation Piping Installation Purge System Theory of Operation To prevent the formation of flammable combinations, compressed natural gas systems must be purged prior to usage. It is required for the electronic enclosure of the dispenser to maintain a minimum pressure differential of 0.15 inches of water at all times.

Once the pressure differential returns to at least 0.15 inches of water column, the timer will delay the return of power for 3 minutes 30 seconds +/- 18 seconds (time is factory set).

    Methane Alarm Non-Purge System [Optional] The Bennett CNG Dispenser utilizes a combustible gas detection system that consists of an audible and visual alarm as shown in Figure 22a and a methane detector as shown in Figure 22b. The methane detector is used to detect when methane is present at a lower explosive limit (LEL) 20%.

The emergency stop button (E-STOP) shown in Figure 23 is used as an emergency shutdown device to terminate power and stop the flow of fuel to the dispenser.

The conduit is located on side 1 in the center. This conduit is where all of the field wires will be pulled into the hydraulics enclosure.

    Note: These wires are used for connecting remote consoles. Refer to console installation instructions for proper wiring methods. For all dispenser codes, the dispenser must be connected to an approved Bennett console or control device. Connect 1 Orange 18ga. (+positive) wire through the junction box to the Timer Board TS2, Terminal 4. Connect the other end to the Dual Fan Out Box (Interconnection Box).
