To test the battery:

Charge the stick reader in a cool dry place for 3 hours at 10-40 ºC (50-104 ºF). The battery will not
fully charge if too hot or cold, or as quickly if the stick reader is left on while charging.

Undo the battery compartment cover and remove the battery.

Measure the battery voltage across the two outside contacts of the battery using a multi-meter. If
less than 6.0 V, replace battery. See page 30.
Plug battery into battery test load (3.3 Ω, 5 W and 4.7 Ω, 5 W in series)

After one hour, the battery voltage should be greater than 6.4 V. If not, replace battery. See page
30.

Testing the real time clock battery voltage (XRS EID Stick Reader only)

To test the real time clock battery voltage:
1
Remove the real time clock battery. See page 31.

Measure the clock battery voltage by attaching a 5.6 kΩ load and measuring the voltage. If the
voltage is less than 2.85 V, replace the real time clock battery. See page 31.
