Disassembling and assembling the stick reader case

Do NOT use a variable speed drill to tighten or undo the screws.
To open the case:
1
Undo the battery compartment cover and remove the battery.
2
Place the stick reader with the buttons facing down. Using a manual screwdriver, unscrew the 10
screws securing the bottom case to the top case. Take care not to continue turning the screw
once fully unscrewed as it will damage the thread in the plastic boss.
3
Turn over the stick reader, gathering the screws as they drop from the case.
Warning
The Display FFC (flat flexible circuit) cable connects the display module to the main module. The
display module is in the top case and the main module is in the bottom case so the two case halves
are joined by the FFC.
4
Carefully lift off the top case. It is likely to stick slightly to the case gasket so gently rocking should
be able to remove it.
5
Turn over the top case and lie it side-by-side with the bottom case.
To close the case:
Stick readers are often used in very harsh environmental conditions. Correct installation of the case
halves, gaskets, and screws are essential to help maintain an effective environmental seal for the
case. Incorrect installation can lead to case leaks and serious malfunctions.
Ensure that the cleaned screw fits the old thread when tightening. First turn the screw anti-
clockwise until it drops into place before tightening.
Ensure that the gaskets are in place and do not get pinched between the case halves.
The case screws are an integral part of the sealing of the case.
1
Inspect the 10 case screws and replace any that are damaged.
2
Remove any plastic swarf from the screw bosses, the screws, in the case, and around the case
gasket and tube gasket.
3
Inspect the lip on the top case that the case gasket seals against for damage. Even minor damage
to this surface can reduce case sealing properties.
