Hughes 9201 BGAN Quick Guide
When using the Bgan for RADIO, before you do anything else, plug the Bgan into an
ISDN COOBE whic h is turned on. T hen switc h the BGAN on. T he top of the unit has
only 2 buttons - power and audio. Press the right hand button for 2 sec onds, and lay it
flat on the ground so it c an get a GPS. T he BGAN network requires a valid GPS fix to
suc c essfully register the BGAN terminal. You need fairly open sky to obtain ac quire the
GPS. T he GPS LED will start to flash green indic ating the terminal is ac quiring a GPS
fix. Onc e a GPS fix is ac quired, the flashing light will go solid. T his may take a few
minutes.
T urn the knobs on the sides to loosen and unfold the legs. Note that they both loosen in
the same direc tion, unlike normal sc rews.
Position the flat panel fac ing the sky as you would an M4. T here are c urrently three
satellites that c an be used. T hey are over the Eastern Pac ific , the Western Pac ific and
Kenya. T here is a c ompass built into the bac k of the unit. Start at about a 30 degree
angle.
T here are two ways to ac hieve the best signal on the Hughes 9201 BGAN. T he first way
is by using the LED display. T o the left of the audio button, there are 8 LED's.
