Installing additional Capacity Expansion
enclosures, BB933A
This chapter describes how to install Capacity Expansion enclosures.
If your system has been supplied with the maximum expansion, all storage will be licensed and
configured, but you must cable the storage enclosures in the correct sequence. See Multiple enclosures
supplied at installation on page 14.
Unlike the pre-configured storage, storage purchased afterinitial installation must be licensed, discovered
and added to the HPE StoreOnce System before it is available for use. Please note that there is a
different license for the 44 TB and the 60 TB Capacity Expansion. The 60 TB license is required for this
expansion. See Licensing and adding storage to the HPE StoreOnce System on page 43.
NOTE:
Always refer to your rack documentation and to the Safety Guide and the HPE StoreOnce 5500 System
Installation and Configuration Guide for detailed instructions about installing units within the rack.

Multiple enclosures supplied at installation

If you have ordered capacity upgrade kits with the initial installation, all additional storage is pre-
configured at the factory. This means that the storage is licensed and ready for use without further
configuration.
However, unless the whole system is supplied within a rack, the individual components are disassembled
and packed individually for delivery. At this point in the factory process, a label is attached to each
enclosure that identifies the server to which it belongs and its sequence within the daisy chain of
connected capacity upgrade kits. For example, if the original installation has two enclosures, the labels
will show:
JBOD1 for <server_serial_number>: this is the disk enclosure that is bundled with the head server and
should be connected directly to the RAID controller card in Port 2 of the head server.
NOTE:
This enclosure will contain a minimum of 15 disks.
JBOD2 for <server_serial_number>: this is the first capacity upgrade kit and should be connected
directly to the RAID controller card in Port 3 of the head server..
NOTE:
The Capacity Upgrade enclosure will contain a minimum of 15 disks, and the first enclosure bundled
with the head server will be full.
NOTE:
Two further JBODs may be connected. Existing enclosures must be full before a further enclosure is
added.
