The Provox® Micron HME™ is a specialized stoma cover that acts as
a heat and moisture exchanger (HME) and air filtration device for
laryngectomized patients. Provox Micron HME partially restores lost
breathing resistance due to laryngectomy. For patients with a voice
prosthesis or surgical speech fistula it may also facilitate voicing.
Provox Micron HME is intended to be used with the attachment
devices in the Provox HME System (fig 1).
This device is contraindicated for patients with decreased level of
consciousness, or reduced mobility of the arms and/or hands, who
are unable to remove the device.

Description of the device
Provox Micron HME is a disposable device that features a calcium
chloride-treated foam core in a plastic housing. Provox Micron HME
also contains electrostatic filter material which is efficient in blocking
airborne particles (see technical data below). The housing of Provox
Micron HME can be pressed down to occlude the stoma in order to
speak with a voice prosthesis. When the pressure is released, the hous-
ing automatically retracts and opens the airway passage.
