Provox Adhesive base plates are single use devices that are intended
to hold Provox Micron HME and other Provox HME Cassettes in
front of the tracheostoma and to provide an airtight seal. The self-
adhesive tape discs are supplied on a peel-away paper liner and come
in two different shapes, i.e. oval (anatomical) and round, and three
different types of glue: OptiDerm, FlexiDerm and Regular.
A special version, Provox XtraBase, is a Flexi-Derm type adhe-
sive that has a conically shaped base. It is designed to facilitate and
improve skin attachment for deep stomas and / or if an automatic
tracheostoma valve Provox FreeHands HME is used.
OptiDerm (fig 1a) is intended for patients with a sensitive skin or
if the skin is not yet healed properly, e g after surgery and/or irradia-
tion. It absorbs moisture, is gentle to the skin and needs less frequent
replacement. It can be applied gently on the 1st postoperative day.
Average durability 36 hours.
FlexiDerm (fig 1b) is very flexible and has the strongest adhesive
properties. It is especially suitable for patients with a deep and/or
irregular stoma or who prefer a very soft and flexible adhesive. Due
to the type of glue used, a suitable skin cleanser is recommended to
clean the skin of any residual glue. Average durability 48 hours.
Regular (fig 1c) is a transparent, perforated adhesive. It is less
flexible and sticky than FlexiDerm, but leaves less residual glue and
is therefore easier and more -comfortable to use. This adhesive is
mainly intended for persons with a regular stoma and skin. Aver-
age durability 24 hours.
