Device mode

The RS-232 DCM supports two device modes:
synchronous
asynchronous
When you configure a circuit as synchronous, clocking parameters must be set
(see section 18.9). When configured as asynchronous, the data structure must be set
(see section 18.8).
For more information on device mode, see section 17.3.
