4. Activate the desired protection level in the first column of the table. The green
checkmarks in the columns to the right of the respective access level show you which
operations are still available without entering the password.
5. In the "Password" column, specify a password for the selected access level. In the
"Confirmation" column, enter the selected password again to protect against incorrect
entries.
Ensure that the password is sufficiently secure, in other words, that is does not follow a
pattern that can be recognized by a machine!
You must enter a password in the first row ("Full access" access level). This enables
unrestricted access to the CPU for those who know the password, regardless of the
selected protection level.
6. Assign additional passwords as needed to other access levels if the selected access level
allows you to do so.

Creating a backup image of the CFast card
Before loading the project for the first time, use the Backup and Restore Tool
(Page 72)to create a backup image of the CFast card.
7. For the access level to take effect, load the hardware configuration of the CPU.
The configured protection level and the password become effective as soon as the data
is downloaded to the CPU. The start page of the CPU web server displays the current
protection status with an additional icon

Protected project - Lost password

Procedure
If you have forgotten the password for your STEP 7 project with activated access protection,
you have the following options:
● Use the Backup and Restore Tool (Page 72) to restore the backup image of the CFast
card in cases where the project does not have access protection enabled.
To do so, create a backup image of the CFast card before loading the project for the first
time.
● Set up the CPU again via the supplied USB restore stick.
