8.3 CUTTING COMPONENT INSPECTION
Inspect blade pan and blade assembly for the following:
Original Blade Edge
Notches and Gouges
Cause: Blade contacting foreign
objects
Remedy: Inspect the area to be mowed
and remove foreign objects that
could cause damage to the blades
Inspect the Blades daily for abnormal wear. REPLACE BOTH BLADES on that carrier
DANGER!
IMMEDIATELY if either blade has:
Become bent or deformed from it's original shape, or
Any cracks are visible, or
Deep gouges in the blades surface are present, or
Gouges or chipped areas in the cutting edge are larger than 1/2", or
The material on the leading edge has been worn away by more than 1/2".
Failure to replace abnormally worn blades may lead to catastrophic failure of the blade and
ejection of the broken part with tremendous force which may cause serious bodily injury or
death!

OPERATION
Excessive Blade Wear
Cause:
Remedy: Replace Blades more often.
Operation Section 4-22
Damaged Pan
Cause: Blade Pan contacts an immovable
object while mower was in motion.
Remedy: Inspect the area before mowing
to determine where the immovable objects
are located and place visible hazard
markers to identify the areas. Avoid mowing
in the area where immovable foreign objects
exist.
Original Blade Edge
Mower height set too low.
Blade used past intended life.
Adjust mower height for mowing
conditions to eliminate blade-to-
ground contact.
