5.7 Repair
This equipment contains voltages capable of causing injury or death. Remove power before
removing the covers and servicing the equipment.
Observe static discharge precautions. The circuit boards in this equipment contain
electrostatic-sensitive devices. Do not use magnetic tools when servicing the equipment, and
avoid touching the microcircuits on the circuit boards.
Repair of the 8500C/C+ and 8520C is limited primarily to replacement of components listed in
Table 5-15 and Table 5-16. Minor repair procedures are described in Table 5-12.

Surfaces and Cables
Clean exterior surfaces of major components and cables as follows:
a.
Wipe surfaces with a clean, lint-free cloth moistened with a solution of water and a mild
detergent.
b.
Wipe surfaces with a clean, lint-free cloth moistened with clean water to remove detergent
residue.

Straighten bent pins on male connectors. Remove any
obstructions from contact pins of female connectors.
Remove corrosion or arcing damage with a stiff bristle
brush. Replace cable or harness if damage is excessive.
Repair tears, fraying, or burns with electrical friction tape.
Replace cable if damage is excessive.
CAUTION
Do not use solvents on the 8500C/C+ display window.
Repair
