Chapter 5 - Maintenance And Repair
a.
Turn on spectrum analyzer and set up to view a 13.44 mVrms, 100 Hz signal.

Turn on signal generator and set up as follows:
(1)
For channel connected to magnetic pickup input, set to Frequency = 100.00 +/-
0.01 Hz, Waveform = Square wave, Amplitude = 1 to 2 Vp-p.
(2)
For channel connected to Velocimeter input, set to Frequency = 100.00 +/- 0.01
Hz, Waveform = Sine wave, Amplitude = 19.0 mV pk.
c.
Press BALANCE key on 8500C/C+.
d.
Press SETUP key.
e.
Key in 6000 with numeric keys in BALANCE FREQUENCY field.

Select <RPM> on display with arrow keys.
g.
Press CHANGE soft key to select <Hz>.
h.
Select <AUTO STOP> field with arrow keys.
i.
Press CHANGE soft key to select <MAN STOP>.
j.
Select PHASE UNITS field with arrow keys.
k.
Press CHANGE soft key to select <DEGREES>.
l.
Press ENTER soft key.
m.
Monitor signal generator output with spectrum analyzer with marker at 100 Hz. Adjust
signal generator output channel connected to Velocimeter input until amplitude is 13.44 +/
- 0.05 mV RMS.
n.
Wait 10 seconds.
o.
Press START key on 8500C/C+.
p.
Verify that 8500C/C+ display indicates:
FREQUENCY: 100.0 +/- 0.1 HZ
VIB LEVEL: 1.000 +0.04/-0.05 IPS
PHASE ANGLE: 180° +/- 3°
q.
Press STOP key.
r.
Move cable 8278 to next Velocimeter channel position listed in Table 5-4 and move cable
10502 to next magnetic pickup cable position.
