Gateway
The gateway from one subnetwork to one or more other subnetworks lies in a
SIMATIC station that has interfaces to the respective subnetworks. Thus, in the
diagram below, the CPU 31xC-2 DP acts as a router between subnetwork 1 and
subnetwork 2.

Prerequisites
S The modules of the station are "capable of routing" (CPUs or CPs).
S The network configuration does not extend beyond the project boundaries.
S The modules have loaded in them the configuration information that contains
the current "knowledge" on the entire network configuration of the project.
Reason: All modules that participate in the gateway must contain information on
which subnetworks can be reached along which routes (= routing information).
S The PD/PC with which you wish to establish a connection via a gateway must
be assigned in the network configuration to the network to which it is actually
physically connected.
S The CPU must be configured as a master.
S If the CPU is configured as a slave, the Commissioning/Test Mode functionality
must be activated in the DP interface properties for the DP slave in STEP 7.
