hicle at any tim e.
The coolant le v e l should be approxim ately one inch b e ­
low bottom o f the f ille r neck on downflow when engine is
cold.
On c ro ssflo w ra d ia tors, if the engine is cold, the
coolant le v e l should be three inches below bottom o f fille r
neck.
On P A
20-30 m odels the coolant le v e l should be
1/2" to 1" below bottom o f f ille r neck when engine is hot.
If checked when engine is cold, the coolant le v e l should
just co v e r the ends o f the tubes. DO NOT O V E R F IL L .
CAUTIO N:
When the engine is at norm al o p e r­
ating tem perature o r above, the internal p r e s ­
sure built up in the cooling system w ill blow out
scalding fluid and vapors if the rad iator cap is
suddenly rem oved.
T o preven t lo s s o f coolant
and to avoid the danger o f being burned, the c o o l­
ant le v e l
should be checked o r coolant added
only when the engine is cool. If the cap must be
rem oved when the engine is hot, place a cloth
o v e r the cap and rotate the cap slow ly coun ter-
clockw ise to fir s t stop and allow p ressu re to
escape com pletely. Then turn cap again slow ly
counterclockw ise to re m o v e .
NOTE:
Do not rem o ve the radiator cap when
engine is e x c e s s iv e ly hot, do not put w ater in an
overheated engine, and do not run engine when
indicator is above

Thermostat
The cooling system
is p rotected and con trolled by a
th erm ostat in stalled in the engine coolant outlet to m ain­
tain a satisfactory operating tem perature o f the engine.
T h is therm ostat is designed fo r continuous use through
both w inter and sum m er and need not be changed sea­
sonally.
Radiator Pressure Cap
The rad iator cap, a 9, 13 o r 15-lb. p ressu re type, must
be installed tightly, oth erw ise coolant may be lo st and

FUEL SYSTEM

Inline Filter
R eplace entire filt e r e v e ry 24,000 m iles.
Fuel Strainer
The fram e mounted fuel stra in er assem bly, located
between the fuel pump and fuel tank (standard equipment
on 60 S eries and optional equipment on a ll other m odels)
should be replaced seasonally
Fuel Pump
The fuel pump should be checked regu la rly to make
sure the mounting bolts,
diaphragm co v e r screw s and inlet connections are tight.
Carburetor
Tighten the carbu retor to m anifold and the m anifold to
cylin d er head stud nuts to prevent a ir leaks. Keep the
ca rb u retor clean extern ally and com pletely overhauled at
reg u la r in terva ls.
Carburetor and Throttle Linkage
Lubricate with engine o il ev e ry 12,000 m iles.
Fuel F ilte r E lem en t--T h e gasoline fuel filt e r elem ent
must be replaced in the event o f ca rb u retor flooding.
The filte r elem ent located in the carbu retor inlet is to be
replaced e v e ry
12 months or
occu rs firs t.
NOTE:
When also equipped with an in -lin e fuel
filte r , it w ill be necessary to change this carbu­
r e to r fuel inlet filt e r only at each 24,000 m ile
in terval.
G overnor
The attaching bolts should be kept tight, the optionally
a vailable govern or should be kept clean extern ally and the
filt e r
elem ent should be replaced ev e ry 12,000 m iles.
