rim s on 40-60 S e ries trucks equipped with w heels of tw o-
p ie c e design (F igu re 4A).
Since
it is im portant that these rim s and d iscs be
p ro p e rly matched and since only the wheel d iscs a re
id en tified (s ize stamped on them ), it is recom m ended that
c a re be taken to keep rim s tagged o r id en tified in som e
manner so that they may be assem bled to the c o rr e c t
d isc.
W here sto rage o r tir e r e p a ir situations re q u ire disc
and rim s be separated and the above precautions have
not alread y been taken, the fo llow in g inform ation should
be used to v e r ify rim size :

Installation of Rims on W heels
CA UTIO N:

w henever p ossible o r use a ' clip -o n ' a ir chuck
and stand a sid e.
D u al Wheels
1. B efo re positioning inner rim , thoroughly clean all
contact su rfaces on both rim and w heel.
2. A fte r inner rim is positioned, in stall separator rin g
as shown in Figu re 4.
3. Install outer rim and proceed as outlined under "D u al
and Single W h eels".
D u a l a n d Single Wheels
When installing the tir e and rim on the w heel, the f o l ­
low ing p rocedu re should be follow ed:
A fte r rim clam ps and nuts a re put on lo o s e ly , turn the
wheel until one spoke is pointing straight upward; tighten
the nut on the spoke just snug.

to
the recom m ended torque a ltern ately and evenly to
avoid e x ce ssive runout.
Runout should not exceed 1/8" on fron t wheel o r 3/16"
on re a r wheel.

Side and lock rings of d ifferen t rim types a re not in te r­
changeable.
Some may appear to be, but they do not fit
p ro p erly on the rim base.

C A UTIO N:

When t ir e s a re mounted on d irty o r corrod ed rim s , o r
when they a re not p ro p e rly centered on rim s , the tir e
bead may "bin d" on the rim , and refu se to seat.

in an attempt to seat the t ir e bead is a DANGEROUS
P R A C T IC E
which can resu lt in seriou s injury to the
servicem a n and a broken tir e bead.
Be Safe!
1. Make sure that rim flan ges and bead ledge (esp e­
c ia lly hump and radius) areas a re smooth and clean.
R em ove any oxidized rubber, d ried soap solution,
rust,
heavy paint, etc. with a w ir e brush, o r, in
extrem e cases, a file .
2. Lu b rica te t ir e beads, rim fla n ges, and bead ledge
areas with a lib e ra l amount of thin vegeta b le o il soap
solution, o r approved rubber lubricant.
3. Insure that a ir p ressu re build-up during the bead
seating p ro cess is not allow ed to exceed 40 pounds
p ressu re.
