2. Disengage the driving unit, or if equipped, put the trans-
mission in NEUTRAL.
3. With the accelerator pedal or lever in the idle position, turn
the keyswitch to the ON position.
4. With the Ignition Switch in the ON position, the engine
indicator lamps come on momentarily and then go out. The
engine indicator lamps include:
WARNING (or CHECK ENGINE) lamp, amber in color
STOP (or STOP ENGINE) lamp, red in color
AFTERTREATMENT DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID lamp, amber
in color
MALFUNCTION INDICATOR lamp, amber in color.
HIGH EXHAUST SYSTEM TEMPERATURE lamp, amber in
color.
5. Under cold conditions, the Wait-to-Start lamp (generally
a yellow lamp using a symbol similar to the graphic, or the
words WAIT TO START) will illuminate at Ignition Switch ON
position, and will stay on for a period of up to 30 seconds.
6. Turn key in Ignition Switch clockwise to the START position.

7. Release key immediately after the engine starts. The
Ignition Switch will automatically return to RUN.
Release the key immediately once the motor starts. If the
motor does not start, DO NOT crank the starter motor con-
tinuously for more than 15 seconds. Failure to release the
key after the motor has started or continuous cranking can
damage the starter motor.
NOTE: The Start position is spring-loaded. When the key is
released, the ignition switch will automatically return to the
RUN position.

Caution
NOTE: If the engine fails to start on the first try, wait until the
engine and starter come to a complete stop before cranking
the engine again.
8.
After the engine starts, allow the engine to idle for
approximately 60 seconds.
9. Apply the service brake pedal and disengage the Parking
Brake switch.
The engine must have adequate oil pressure within 15 sec-
onds after starting. If the WARNING lamp indicating low oil
pressure has not gone out or there is no oil pressure indi-
cated on a gauge within 15 seconds, shut OFF the engine
immediately to avoid engine damage.
10. Idle the engine 3 to 5 minutes before operating with a
load. After starting a cold engine, increase the engine speed
(rpm) slowly to provide adequate lubrication to the bearings
and to allow the oil pressure to stabilize..

Jump Starting

Jump Start or replace the battery of the Telehandler when
the battery is discharged to the point that it will not crank the
starter.
Lead-acid batteries produce flammable and potentially ex-
plosive gases. To avoid death or serious injury when check-
ing, testing, or charging batteries:
DO NOT use smoking materials near batteries.
Keep arcs, sparks, and open flames away from batteries.
Provide ventilation for flammable vapors.
Wear proper personal protective equipment, including
safety glasses.
Fluid in electric storage batteries contains sulfuric acid,
which is poison and could cause severe chemical burns.
Avoid all contact of fluid with eyes, skin, or clothing. Use
protective gear when handling batteries. DO NOT tip a bat-
tery beyond a 45° angle in any direction.
If contact does occur, follow these First Aid suggestions:
