Limit of Detection

The method detection limit (MDL) for a test is important
because it determines whether a measurement is
different from zero. It can be difficult to determine and
experts disagree about its definition.
It is recognised that the MDL is not fixed; it varies for
each batch, instrument, analyst, sample type, etc.
Therefore, a published MDL is a useful guide, but is only
accurate in a specific set of circumstances.
