Hazard Avoidance
After a subscriber account has been established, the system must be registered for
data link features such as reporting services or GFDS Worldwide Weather. Registration
is accomplished by entering the required access code. This process is only performed
when initially setting up the system for GFDS services.
Registering the system for data link services
1) With the aircraft outside and having a clear view of the sky, turn the large
FMS Knob on the MFD to select the AUX page group.
2) Turn the small FMS Knob to select the AUX-SYSTEM STATUS. Note the
System ID number in the AIRFRAME field.
3) Turn the large FMS Knob to select the MAP Page group.
4) Turn the small FMS Knob to select the MAP-WEATHER DATA LINK Page.
5) Press the MENU Key. If necessary, select 'Display GFDS Weather'.
6) Press ENT Key. The 'GARMIN FLIGHT DATA SERVICE REGISTRATION'
Window is now displayed.
7) Press the MENU Key. The Page Menu window is now displayed.
8) Using the FMS Knob enter the access code obtained from Garmin Flight
Data Services in the ACCESS CODE field.
9) Press the ENT Key. REGISTER will now be highlighted.
10) Press the ENT Key. System registration is complete when 'REGISTERED' is
displayed in the STATUS field.
Accessing GFDS Worldwide Weather Products
1) Turn the large FMS Knob to select the Map Page Group.
2) Turn the small FMS Knob to select the GFDS Weather Data Link Page.
When a weather product is selected for display on the GFDS Weather Data Link
Page, a box containing a symbol for the product and its age (in minutes) are shown
in the upper right. If weather data has not been requested, 'N/A' is shown next to the
product symbol instead of age. The age of the weather product is based on the time
difference between when the data was assembled on the ground and the current GPS
time. Weather products are updated continuously or refreshed at specific intervals
(defined in the Refresh Rate column in the following table).
