Verify the Linux configuration is supported
To ensure reliable operation, you create an implementation plan and then verify that the entire configuration
is supported.
Step 1.
Go to the
DE Series Product Support Site
Step 2.
Click on the Documentation tab.
Step 3.
Look for the Interoperability Matrix document, and click to download or view the file.
In this file, you may search for the product family that applies, as well as other criteria for the
configuration such as Operating System, ThinkSystem SAN OS, and Host Multipath driver.
Configure management port IP addresses
Configure the management port for communication between the management station and array controllers.
• You have obtained the network configuration information from your network administrator for the
controllers (IP address, subnet mask, and gateway or IP address and routable IP address).
• You have turned on the legacy management interface (SYMbol). If you have disabled the interface, see the
ThinkSystem System Manager online help or the Command Line Reference for information on re-enabling
it.
For detailed information on how to configure your management port, refer to the Installation and Setup
Instructions that comes with your system.
Install ThinkSystem Storage Manager for SMcli and Host Context Agent (HCA)
When you install the ThinkSystem Storage Manager software on your management station, the command
line interface (CLI) is installed to help you manage your array. By also installing the software on the host, the
Host Context Agent is installed that helps the host push configuration information to the storage array
controllers through the I/O path.
Before you begin
• You must have the correct administrator or superuser privileges.
• You must have ensured that the system that will contain the ThinkSystem Storage Manager client has the
following minimum requirements:
– RAM: 2 GB for Java Runtime Engine
– Disk space: 5 GB
– OS/Architecture: Refer to
guidance on determining the supported operating system versions and architectures.
This section describes how to install ThinkSystem Storage Manager on both the Windows and Linux OS
platforms, because both Windows and Linux are common management station platforms when Linux is used
for the data host.
Step 1.
Download the ThinkSystem Storage Manager software release from
