a network. Troubleshooting and network planning can be accomplished through
the network management applications.
The network monitor monitors traffic on a network and records selected portions of
the network traffic and statistics. The collected traffic and statistics are retrieved
using SNMP and CLI. The data collected is defined in the RMON MIB, RFC 2819.
A device that supports gathering and reporting the RMON data is referred to as an
RMON probe or RMON Agent. An RMON probe provides RMON data to an RMON
Manager for analysis and presentation to the user. An RMON probe may be
embedded in a supported RMON groups as follows:
- Statistics, History, Alarm and Event of RFC 2819.
- All groups of RFC 3273.
- All groups of RFC 3434.

3.1.1.4. NETCONF (Network Configuration Protocol)

The NETCONF protocol provides a small set of low-level operations to manage
device configurations and retrieve device state information. The base protocol
provides operations to retrieve, configure, copy, and delete configuration
datastores. The switch supports "running" and "start-up" configuration to be get or
modified.
The syntax and XML encoding of the protocol operations are formally defined in
the XML schema in RFC4741 Appendix B.
The configuration can be defined in multiple formats, such as XML and text. For
text format, configuration statements are formatted as ASCII text, using the
newline character, tabs and other white space, braces, and square brackets to
indicate the hierarchical relationships between the statements. This is the format
used in configuration files stored on the switch and displayed by the CLI "show
running-config" command.
Currently we only support text format. All configurations - either in response of
<get-config> or in request of <edit-config> - are in text format, they are exactly the
same as CLI statements used in CLI.
SSH is the widely used protocol for NETCONF sessions. The default SSH port for
NETCONF is 830. Only support SSHv2 transport protocol at present.
