2.4. Initial Configuration of the switch

You can set up the switch in the CLI through the console or the management port
of the switch.

2.4.1. Checking version and system information

You can check the current runtime version with the show version command.
#show version

2.4.2. Setting the System Clock of the Switch

The time stamp is recoded in the system logs and other system resources based on
the system clock to indicate when a certain event takes place. Setting correct time
stamp is important for maintenance and support. There are two ways to set up the
time stamp – You can simply set up the clock manually, or if you have a SNTP
(Simple Network Time Protocol) server, you can setup the system clock
synchronizing with your SNTP server.
If you set up the system clock manually, a set of time zone commands are used.
The following example set up the system time, 3:02 PM and the date, January 30,
2017 with the clock set command, and then set the time zone, UTC +9 hours and
the zone name Japan Standard Time (JST), with the clock timezone command.
#configure
(Config)# clock timezone +9 zone JST
